Encinitas is a small city with two climates inside it, and that shapes the work more than anything else does. West of Coast Highway 101, in Leucadia and Old Encinitas, the air carries salt year round and the marine layer holds moisture over these blocks for weeks at a stretch in late spring. A few miles east, in Olivenhain and on the inland side of I-5, the overcast burns off and the kitchen runs warm from noon until evening. The same refrigerator fails in a different order in those two places, and we service both every week.

That is not a slogan, it is the diagnostic order. On the coast we expect a condenser furred with a salt film that holds dust instead of shedding it, aluminum fin stock going chalky, and fan bearings that have picked up corrosion. Inland we expect a compressor that has been running long duty cycles against a restricted coil, and an owner describing a fresh-food compartment that drifts warm in the afternoon and comes back overnight. Both complaints arrive on the phone sounding identical.
