Questions
Frequently asked questions
It is late and our refrigerator has gone warm. Will anyone in Encinitas actually answer?
Yes. The line is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, holidays included. Whether a technician reaches you that night or first thing depends on where the work already sits and whether the part is on board, and you hear which on the call, not a window nobody can keep. Same-day service in Encinitas where the schedule allows.
Which parts of Encinitas do you cover, and do you cross into Cardiff or Olivenhain?
All of 92024: Old Encinitas and the lettered streets below the 101, Leucadia north to the Carlsbad line, New Encinitas, Village Park and Encinitas Ranch inland of I-5, Cardiff-by-the-Sea down to the San Elijo Lagoon, Olivenhain along Rancho Santa Fe Road. Also Solana Beach, Del Mar, Carlsbad, Rancho Santa Fe and Vista. Unsure of a boundary? Give us the cross street.
Our column is boxed into an old Leucadia kitchen. Can you service it where it stands?
Yes. Built-in refrigeration is built for service in place: the condenser and compressor compartment are reached through the grille. In the older Old Encinitas and Leucadia kitchens the column sits in an opening cut for it, scribes and filler panels closed up afterward, so dragging it forward would take the trim and sometimes the flooring with it.
What does a first visit in Encinitas actually look like?
The grille comes off first: on this coast the condenser explains most Encinitas calls. Then a temperature at the evaporator coil with a calibrated probe, never the front display. After that, whichever circuit the symptom points at: evaporator fan, defrost heater, thermistor, drain path, door seal. You see the failed part, and one price for parts and labor before fitting.
What parts do you fit?
Factory-approved components rather than pattern copies. A generic condenser fan motor or a non-original door gasket fitted in a house on Neptune Avenue is usually back on the fault list within a season or two, because salt air punishes cheap bearings and soft gasket magnets first. If something is on backorder, you hear what the wait looks like before you commit.
Is the repair covered once you have left?
Yes. The warranty covers the parts we replace and the workmanship that put them in. Keep the paperwork, and if the same symptom returns, say so when you call: it is handled as a returning fault, not a fresh diagnosis. Mention at booking if your Sub-Zero is still inside its factory warranty, since sealed-system coverage often hinges on whose technician opened the machine.
Is an older 600 or 700 series column worth repairing, or should we just replace it?
Repair, nearly always. The opening was framed for that cabinet, and the door panel matches cabinetry that in plenty of Encinitas houses cannot be ordered in that finish any more, so replacement brings a cabinetmaker as well as a delivery truck. What fails on these columns is ordinary parts: condenser fan, door gasket, defrost heater and thermistor, evaporator fan, ice maker module.
What should I have ready when I call, and what do you need to get to the appliance?
Model number if the plate is reachable, which compartment is wrong, whether the freezer is still hard-frozen, when it started, and any code showing. Then access: parking on the beach-side blocks, stairs up to the kitchen, and in Olivenhain the gate at the end of a long driveway. And leave the doors shut until we arrive; opening a warm compartment only makes the reading worse.
