Sub-Zero
Sub-Zero Appliance Repair in Encinitas
Every Sub-Zero standing in an Encinitas kitchen is really two refrigerators in one cabinet. The fresh-food side has its own compressor and evaporator, the freezer has a second, entirely separate set, and no air passes between the two compartments, which is why produce keeps its moisture and nothing in the refrigerator tastes of what is frozen beside it. It is also why a warm refrigerator over a hard-frozen freezer is better news than it sounds: one complete sealed system has just proved itself healthy, and the fault is somewhere on the other one.
Where the cabinet stands decides what we find inside it. On the bluff streets in Leucadia and the blocks below the 101 in Old Encinitas, the air carries salt year round and the condenser fins collect a film that holds dust rather than shedding it. The aluminum goes chalky, a condenser fan bearing stiffens, and the first thing anyone notices is a fresh-food compartment that drifts warm through the afternoon and recovers overnight. Two miles east, in Olivenhain or on the Encinitas Ranch side of I-5, the marine layer burns off by midday and the same partial restriction is paid for in compressor run time instead, so the unit that arrives on the phone as not cooling is really a machine that has been working too hard for a year.

What Encinitas customers say
Our wine column sits in the pantry off the garage out in Olivenhain and it holds fine all night then climbs by dinner. He left a thermometer down at bottle level for the afternoon rather than trusting the display, found the damper on the upper zone. Fixed in one trip.
Ice was coming out hollow and half the size it should be. I assumed the ice maker was shot. He measured the water pressure first, filter was long overdue and the inlet valve was scaled up. Two parts and no module. Cubes are normal again.
We are only down at the beach place a few weekends a month, so the whining behind the top grille had been going a while before we caught it. Condenser fan bearing. Replaced on the same visit. Fast, tidy, explained what he was doing.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
What parts do you fit?
Factory-approved components rather than pattern copies. A generic condenser fan motor or a non-original door gasket fitted in a house on Neptune Avenue is usually back on the fault list within a season or two, because salt air punishes cheap bearings and soft gasket magnets first. If something is on backorder, you hear what the wait looks like before you commit.
